Before I began another restaurant review,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DEARIE MUMMY!!!
She is older by one now. Time flies. A while back, I was the one who always complain to my mum of my little cuts and bruises from falls. But now, my mum is the one who tells me all her ailments of aches and all. =( Perhaps we should all, stop and look at our parents closely. Then, we will realize how much they have aged.
Since my dad had Peach Garden before and was quite satisfied with their food, we decided to take his suggestion and head over to Peach Garden @ Thomson Plaza.
Ehhh… This collage seems a little wrong. But I am too lazy to rearrange and reorganized all the pictures. :S
The picture at the bottom right shows the Peking duck that we had. Weirdly, in contrast to Beijing, they only serve the Peking duck’s skin and they would wrap it for us. In Beijing, the tradition is to slice a plate of crispy duck’s skin and a plate of the skin with meat. With only the skin served, we were given the choice to have another duck dish with the leftover meat. We decided on stir fry duck meat mee sua which I didn’t capture. To me, definitely, this Peking duck cannot be compared to what I had in Beijing. The mee sua was tasty although not fantastic. Since we were discussing the quality of the Peking duck, my dad told us that he felt that the Peking duck served by Spring Court Restaurant @ Chinatown is better than some of the Peking duck served in Beijing. Considering the fact that my dad is a foodie who loves to go to China, I totally believe him and made a mental note to visit Spring Court someday. Solely for the Peking duck. Teeheehee… >.<
The bottom left picture is their Wasabi Mayo prawns which is one of their signature dishes. My parents love it. According to them, it is better than the Wasabi Mayo prawns at the Bosses Restaurant @ Vivocity. Pardon me for the lack of comments for this dish. I am such a strong wasabi-hater that I don’t think I have anything nice to say about it and my opinion will be quite skewed. Anyway, their prawns are really fresh, huge and succulent!
Another of their signatures and what I recommend as a MUST! A MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST order – Shark’s bone soup. As a shark’s fin soup lover, no other soups, not even your Buddha jumps over the wall, can win my beloved shark’s fin. But this! This heavenly shark’s bone soup! It won shark’s fin soup hands down! There are a couple of other restaurants that serve this but I am not sure whether they are all as delectable as this from Peach Garden since this is my first time drinking shark’s bone soup.
The long beans with dried shrimps and minced meat was well fried. Although it is such a common dish, the standard is better than most other restaurants.
Desserts time! Yummy yum yum!! ^.^
No comments on the almond paste with Tang yuan as I didn’t try that. I also didn’t try the coconut dish, which is your glutinous black rice with vanilla ice-cream instead of the coconut milk that it usually comes with. =)
The mango sago is one of the best I had in Singapore! It is even comparable to the Hong Kong one just that it isn’t as huge a bowl, it is more expensive and there isn’t as much mango bits in it. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA…..
The avocado with vanilla ice-cream is also highly recommended. Firstly, this dessert is not common and the taste is good but you may find it too creamy and thus, too strong a taste to polish it clean.
Very satisfying! Heard that Peach Garden serves great fish and steak or is it pork? I want to go back soon for the shark’s bone soup! Yummy yummy!
Bought myself a little gift while I am at Thomson Plaza. ;)
Note: I think the shark’s bone soup might be a little heaty since after consumption, my sister got ulcers and I got some pimples. But it ain’t stopping me from drinking it! Heh heh heh… Poor sharks! >.<
