sheer joy and auntie vibe

I’m becoming like an auntie. I was happily shopping away at NTUC Fairprice and Metro today. : (

My buys excite me and made me very very happy! I think I am going to join the auntie league soon! Been obsessed with natural pure red apple juice lately… I think it must be influence from Tarynn! ; ) That’s part of the reason why I am so joyful in NTUC because there’s a few natural apple juice brands there. I am a little picky here. I am NOT looking for apple juice from real fruit juice. I am looking for freshly squeezed apple juice with preservatives to make it last. Although such preserved juices cannot be compared to the freshly squeezed ones but even they tasted very different from those that are made from real fruit juice or worse, juice concentrate.

After my dearie muggish slave accompanied me at Metro Paragon, I decided to treat him to dinner! This is the yummy part! And the highlight in a foodie’s post. LOL…

As ramen lovers, we decided to give Daikokuya a try and see whether it can be compared to IPPUDO SG. Daikokuya is located at Paragon’s basement.

Well, ramen aside, they have one of the BEST salmon sashimi! Super fresh and thick! Served in 5 pieces for just $8.80!!! They are even cheaper than Ichiban if I am not wrong. Really good! Even an amateur like me can tell from the look of the salmon slices that they are SUPER fresh! AWESOME! Their gyoza is another must try dish! As for their ramen, Isaac had their new ramen called the stamina ramen which is really good except for the bean sprouts. Not that the sprouts ain’t fresh, just that I am an ANTI-bean sprout person. HAHA… Their ramen egg, in Isaac’s opinion, is better than IPPUDO’s. However, their char siew cannot be compared to the IPPUDO legendary special braised pork (Kakuni). The ramen itself is thicker than most but it’s delicious! I find it’s texture quite akin to the hard ramen in IPPUDO, just a lot thicker. The soup is great for garlic lovers and although, at the first few sips, it may not be as enticing as the spicy miso ramen that I ordered, you will definitely fall in love with it before you reach half the bowl. As for the spicy miso ramen that I had, the soup is good and the noodles’ texture is much like the soft ramen in IPPUDO. However, as the soup is spicy, you will find that by the time you are halfway through it, you can’t taste much except for the spiciness on your tongue. Not very impressive. Isaac and I both agreed that we will want to come back for the stamina ramen. No wonder it won the best ramen in 2009!

No idea why but we decided to head over to Orchard Central after dinner as the last time we went, it was pretty empty and most of the shops are not opened. Although it got slightly better now, it is still pretty much empty. However, we stumbled upon an interesting shop at the basement. The name is The Pather. It is operated by an uncle dressed in Arabian clothes but we are unsure whether he is an Arab. The shop sells their in-house perfumes which are alcohol-free. The uncle even recommended us scents based on his own impression of us. And the scents that he recommended are really nice. It’s really amazing because I often had the experience of sales personnel recommending scents that I really don’t fancy, sometimes the scents are even revolting to me. But for this uncle, the scents that he chose for us are pleasing and soothing. We decided to give it a try since the smallest vial is just 10 bucks. The shop has more exquisite perfume vials which I am dying to buy but as an unemployed, it will be tough to fork out that kind of money! :’(

But anyway, Isaac insisted on buying me my perfume vial and he got one for himself as well. His is the one with the red crystal while mine is the purple one. The nice uncle even gave us the brown scarf as a complementary gift! I want to go back to him soon! But I need M.O.N.E.Y!!!!

We ended the happy day with the devil-misu (tiramisu) at TCC and its’ Fruitti Delights since we don’t want to take any caffeine at the end of the day and risk staying up whole night. ; )

pamper me!

You know the thing with blogging or doing anything that doesn’t have a deadline to meet, is that you are more prone to delay and delay. And one fine day, suddenly, you realized that you have accumulated a huge stack of pending matters to attend.

That’s exactly what’s happening to my blogging routine.

On another aspect of my life, I know it isn't right to be pampered and indulge in goodness. But I did it nonetheless... :(

After baby started working, Saturdays are one of those rare days where we can meet up for some day-time activities. Girls being girls, did some shopping and chit-chatting. Then since we are moving along the aging process (towards the mature end :’(), we needed a place to rest and chill so that's when tea comes into the picture. Too bad for us, the long queue at TWG and scorching weather at GUSTTIMO di ROMA's al fresco led us to an unique chilling place - THE SCENE @ Wisma Atria. We decided to go for some nail services to relax and rest our weary legs. Heehee… >.<

Its a nice place but a little too cold. The spa treatment that a Caucasian lady was doing caught our eyes and we decided to do that next month. ^.^

I guess that is if I can secure a job by then... :(

Anyway, QUIZNOS at novena square 2 is good! Both Isaac and I find that they are much more delicious than subway. Here's the zesty steak and bourbon chicken. We couldn't decide which flavour is better because they are delectable in their own way. Bourbon chicken provides a very refreshing taste and feel. Zesty steak, on the other hand, gives a stronger taste and feel, much like the quesadillas burger from Applebee's.

Satisfied and Blissful.

Monday was a happy day for my family because my cousin got married that day. It was a pretty simple event as it only involves solemnization and traditional tea ceremony. Despite its simplicity, the atmosphere was joyous and blissful. The kind that gives you a fuzzy feeling when you suddenly look around and see how family interacts. Or maybe I am thinking a little too much here.

The funny thing is, the only photos that were taken were the delectable éclairs served and me putting one into my mouth. HAHA… That’s shots taken to irritate Isaac again! Since co-incidentally, it happened to be his first day at work. :P

Isaac and I went back to Putien since I loved their lor mee so so much. ♥♥♥♥♥ It turned out that I was feeling really restless and what I do when I am restless is to snap away with my trusty mobile. I guess I like to take pictures when I am feeling bored. It just come so naturally!

Recently, Isaac has been without luck with Secret Recipe’s Chocolate Banana cake which is his favourite! It’s the same after Putien, there wasn’t Chocolate Banana cake at the Marina Square outlet. So instead, we settled for Chocolate Strawberry and their famous New York Cheesecake.

I used to love cheesecakes. Totally adored them. But I couldn’t remember when did I stop eating them. It definitely had nothing to do with slimming or anything of this sort (since it’s quite unlikely for someone who is a foodie to embark on such a torturous regime) but I just can’t explain in specifics what made me stop eating them. I think it’s just another natural occurrence. Maybe I got sick of them. I just remembered my peak cheesecake eating era was when Secret Recipe’s New York cheesecake just got crowned the best cheesecake. It must be 2006 or somewhere there. Funny how people and their tastes changes over time. I hope their love don’t though…

Met up with Rusty, Daren, Andrew, Jiunn, Jennie, Lunkai, John and Isaac to celebrate a belated birthday for Lunkai. They decided on Nando’s which is the newly opened restaurant at Parco Bugis and is always having looooonnnnnng dinner queues. Their specialty is in grilled chicken (usually spicy) and spicy sauces to complement their dishes. Love their garlic sauce! ♥♥

Isaac and I shared the skewer with 4 pieces of grilled chicken thighs. It is served with 2 sidelines. The other dish is their Angry Mango burger. Let me just provide some useful information which I think you guys will thank me if you haven’t been to Nando’s. In their sidelines, they have 2 kinds of rice. Mediterranean rice and spiced rice.

Mediterranean rice = white rice with peas, carrots cubes and corns

Spiced rice = Rice bits with pickled olives and the whole thing tasted sour

In addition, do not expect chips that look like your junk food chips. Their chips are actually French fries.

That’s all that I can remember.

Both are nice! Love the refreshing taste from the Angry Mango burger! But I don’t think they are worth the queue time though…

Right, time to sleep! Although I slept 10hours yesterday night. HAHA…

A Lazy Lass

I have been acting like a sloth as you can see from the emptiness of my blog. But well, be prepared for a massive upload since I have accumulated a pile of Foodie Goodie and Cam-whoring photos.

Before I overwhelmed you with food, I just like to share a small part of a meaningful quote that I chanced upon today.

Don’t harp on the past especially people in the past since there’s a reason why they didn’t make it to your future.

I hope this can help some of us here who might still be holding on to something or someone in the past. And there’s another part of it which makes good sense too!

As time passes, you will realize who are the ones who are important, who are the ones who are not and who are the ones whom you have already let go…

There are more to the quote but these parts really caught my eyes and got themselves a place in my mind.

Right, let’s move on!

It was a rare occasion where my family went out to a far off place called The Central @ Clarke Quay. I am not kidding when I say it is a faraway land for us since we live in the remote part of Singapore – S.E.M.B.A.W.A.N.G.!!!!!!!!! Claire used to call my neighbourhood, Area 51, which I guess has another meaning to it though…

We were supposed to visit the ramen place which my dad totally adores but we ended up at another restaurant that prides themselves as the FIRST place to offer Ramen Shabu Shabu. The name is Tsuru Tsuru Tei.

Too bad, I was in quite a foul mood and it wasn’t till near the end of the meal that I got out of it. Ended up at TCC for coffee and desserts. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ their Tiramisu!!!

Lunch @ Eatzi with Isaac. Their fish fillets dishes are good and they are cheap too! Hate the peas though…

Sunday is a weird day. Had tearful eyes before, during and after church. But I enjoyed myself for the rest of the day. Perhaps, I was too emotional recently. I feel like a crybaby~~~

I had the sad face because I was served with the teriyaki chicken pasta and both Isaac and I were vying for the Spicy Prawn Carbonara. Absolutely MUST-TRY!!!

Since he made me really upset on Sunday, I decided to get back at him a little.

Not sure whether the title of the book is legible. But it translate to something like I kissed dating good-bye. Implying I want to kiss him good-bye! HAHA… Anyway, we were waiting for close to one and a half hour for him to see the doctor. So having nothing much to do, and with my trusty digicam, we indulge in capturing goofy pictures.

Isaac looks weird in all of them!

And we finally made our way back to My BANANA LEAF Store!!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥

Finally figured out that dish with multiple small side dishes - North Indian Vegetarian Set

I LURVE having Indian yogurt with tons of diverse curry gravies on my rice! The mixture is absolutely fabulous! The yogurt adds a tinge of sourness and creates a smoother texture to the mixture. It helps to reduce the spiciness too! I didn’t have a single drop of sweat but Isaac (who didn’t like the yogurt) was sweating like a spoilt tap!! The Swensen @ City Square mall also has a good alfresco area with a great view! ♥♥♥ Little India! Always feel like a tourist there! :)

Met my parents for dinner at Braddell-Toa Payoh area. Dinner @ Tim’s which is a Nepalese Western Restaurant located at heartland! Their food is good considering their price. But I was too full from my banana leaf to truly appreciate the spread. :(

Met my baby on Tuesday for dinner. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ her recommendation! Eat-All-You-Can Steamboat buffet at Bugis!! It’s better than good! Thick soup base and fresh food! Can’t wait to go back there! >.< P.S.// There shouldn’t have been any “evidence” of our dinner. We have Isaac to thank since this photo was initially captured and sent to him as a mms to irritate him since he wasn’t able to join us that night!

I do believe that people do crazy things when they are dying of boredom. I am one of them. We went to catch Baarìa and had close to an hour to spare. Started to munch on cheese fries from KFC and ended up smearing cheese on each other’s lips. I did it to him first and feeling embarrassed, Isaac got back at me. :P

Meal @ Xin Wang.

Yippie! APPLEBEE’S @ TripleOne It’s a really must visit restaurant! Delectable Delectable food……

The Queen and her slave. Teehee… :P

They are screening the world cup! So you can see Isaac who is sucked into the game while I am bored with the screen behind me. LOL…

Kidding… The slave dare not leave the Queen in the clutches of boredom.

Sorry for the orange lighting, our spot was pretty dark with ember lightings.

Our spread was more Mexican. We had their Quesadilla Burger and their plate of trio which consists of Cheeseburger sliders, Quesadilla Towers and their signature Spinach and Artichoke dip with chips.

Quesadilla burger is a must-try! Although their spinach and artichoke dip is really good, I will prefer my chips with chili con carne. ^.^

Wonder will Isaac murder me if he knew I was late because I was cam-whoring at home… heehee… >.<

foodie’s blog

Tarynn commented on one of my blog post that my blog is really a foodie’s blog. HAHA… She’s right. So how could I miss out doing another review to a restaurant that I haven’t been visiting for years. (This is such a great emotional change from the previous post!!! I know!!)

Bei Shen Thai Seafood @ Chong Bang (Near Yishun Central)

Most of their dishes are alright except 2! The best and the worst. The worst – Fish Maw Soup. The fish maw in the soup can only be referred to as traces. But well, for $5, we can’t expect too much, can we? But a lucky thing is, they didn’t use starch to replace the lack of fish maw, instead they filled it with mushrooms, crabmeat and carrots.

The best dish will be the deep fried fish. And it comes at unbelievable price!!! $15!! OMG! Its a fish for 3 and its not that small and very well fried! Absolutely love it! It’s the die die must try dish I will say! However, if you are not a fan of deep fried fish, I think you can go for other methods of cooking fish. It should be as good. The only flaw is the sauce. Unlike other restaurants, this one doesn’t use the light sauce that looked like soya sauce. Instead, the sauce that they use looked more like your gravy for Hor Fun. LOL…Not that the sauce isn’t nice, but I will prefer the conventional soya sauce to go with my deep fried fish.

This restaurant is pretty packed. I guess their seafood is really good and cheap. We went there on a weekday and they had a queue since 6p.m. Weekends are even worse. One other thing, their service attitude is BAD. I guess due to the large number of patrons, they are really busy and they tend to be hasty when taking your orders. But they are really efficient in clearing tables and settling your bills.

This is really random. Calling all lovers of Phad Thai, I heard that this is the most authentic Phad Thai in Singapore. It is by Lerk Thai. One of my friends who went to Thailand and had this there find that LerkThai’s Phad Thai is the most similar in taste to the one she had in Thailand.

I am missing my baby~~~ (I know I am being random again!)

the pathetic lil’ wormie

I seem to be weak at heart. Very weak. Chanced upon a display TV playing UP and caught a glimpse of the old man in UP flipping through his wife’s scrapbook. Just that, just him discovering his wife’s section of “What I’m gonna do” with their wedding photos and other photos together, that alone, made me tear.

I feel that recently, I have such an easily saddened heart that I was worried of whether I have fell into the hands of depression. :X

Back home, I was forced to rummage through a tin and decide whether to keep it’s contents, I found 2 pieces of paper tore from a notebook. It was actually some words of encouragement from my sister when I was studying for one of my finals. I couldn’t remember which one it is but definitely not that recent. Reading through her note again, gave me a little strength.

She didn’t write much. She just copied some verses from the bible.

Isaiah 40: 28

“… He (God) will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Isaiah 40: 30

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;”

Isaiah 40: 31

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

When I first saw the above verses, they didn’t have much impact on me. Though, I was still touched and surprised by my sister’s concern over me since it doesn’t come often. To see them again after some years, it passed on a new meaning and it came at such a right time that I feel like crying again. I have been reducing to tears so easily that I am no longer surprised by their sudden presence in my eyes anymore.

I suppose that’s why people have religions. Regardless of what religion it is, they are a source of spiritual strength especially at your weakest moment and when you feel that you no longer can inch forward. When your heart is weary~~

anybody's heart...
Anybody's Heart - Katherine McPhee

It's a great big world to a scared little girl
If you smile just right no one knows you might have
A heart full of pain and a soul that can't reign
And a stomach full of butterflies

All that I wanted was just to feel safe
Safe in your arms

Say you didn't mean to
Say I wouldn't understand
But it's time you say something
God knows it's the one thing I need
And the heart you broke
Know it wasn't just anybody's heart

So I bit my nails and I held my breath
And I said "I'm fine" yeah, I did my best
But you can't tell me you never knew the truth
Of all the fear I felt, how I worried about you

And all that I wanted was just to feel safe
Safe in your arms

I was yours, I was yours
And the heart that you broke
Was devoted and pure
And it wasn't just anybody's heart
